Save The Date: World Wetlands Day Tue 3rd Feb

Inch Wildfowl Reserve

As part of World Wetlands Day, Inishowen Rivers Trust will be taking part in an international webinar on Tuesday 3rd February, joining voices from around the world to highlight the importance of wetlands. Afterwards we will have a short presentation by Trish Murphy discussing the work that Inishowen Rivers Trust do and our plans for 2026

Wetlands play a vital role in protecting biodiversity, water quality and climate resilience. They act as natural filters, improve water storage during heavy rainfall, reduce flood risk, and provide essential habitats for a wide range of plants, birds and aquatic species. In places like Inishowen, wetlands are closely linked to the health of our rivers, lakes and coastal systems.

By attending this global webinar, we are keen to learn from international best practice, share local experience, and strengthen our understanding of how wetland protection and restoration can support healthier catchments and communities. The event aligns closely with our ongoing work across Inishowen, from river restoration and habitat enhancement to community engagement and education.
