Yesterday, families and nature enthusiasts joined us in Clonmany for a very special outing led by Aengus Kennedy of Nature North West. The event offered a rare chance to slow down, explore the shore, and learn about the rich biodiversity that thrives all around us.
We began our day on the mainland with a short talk where Aengus introduced the group to some of the area’s birds, animals, and plants. He had brought along a fascinating collection of specimens, giving everyone the opportunity to see them up close. For the children in particular, being able to examine and touch the birds was a highlight — a rare, hands-on experience that made the learning come alive.

As the tide receded, the group made its way across the causeway to the tidal island. Here the real adventure began. Both young and old searched the strand for natural treasures — feathers, shells, seaweed, and even bones. Each find was carefully examined and explained by Aengus, who shared his deep knowledge of the local wildlife and landscapes. Every discovery became a learning moment, sparking curiosity and conversation.

The day was not just about collecting objects, but about fostering a deeper connection to the natural world. Participants left with a renewed sense of wonder, a better understanding of the biodiversity on our doorstep, and memories of a shared community experience by the sea.
A huge thank you goes to Aengus for leading such an inspiring and engaging event, and to everyone who came along to make the day so special.
