River Bingo with St Bodens NS

We were delighted to visit St Bodens NS in Culdaff this week for a fun, hands-on workshop all about river health. Two groups of students took part, each exploring a different way to learn about their local river and then swapping over so everyone got the full experience!

Thomas led one group from the river, where students looked at specimens that were collected and examined tiny river creatures to see what was living beneath the surface. The second group worked with Micheala, who guided them through questions and observations to help them assess how healthy the river is.

By the end, all the pupils had learned how the presence of certain insects can tell us a lot about water quality and how healthy rivers support wildlife, people, and the planet. Their enthusiasm and teamwork made this a brilliant Climate Action Week activity.

A big thank you to all the staff and students at St Bodens NS for all their support in making it such an enjoyable day. To Thomas, Sally and Meave from The Mill River Conservation Group for all their help.

This workshop was supported by the Local Enhancement Programme 2025, funded by Donegal County Council, the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, and @pobal.
