Coming October 2020 – The Inishowen Rivers Trust are delighted to announce our next River Guardians training module – Leave No Trace with Mountaineering and Mapping Skills. This will be a very interesting and practical look at working outdoors, searching for rivers using a map and compass and dealing with the elements during the day and in dark conditions.
The course has been kindly funded by the Local Authority Waters Programme through their Community Water Development Fund. The course is spread out over 2 full days and one evening. Our facilitators for the course will be Bren Whelan and Inga Bock. Bren (WMCI & IML) is an experience mountain guide and will take us through all the safety procedures, elements of navigation, using a map, and reducing our impact on the environment. Inga (Donegal Rural Recreation Officer) will cover roaming over land, gaining landowner permissions and understanding what responsibilities you have as a recreational user.
If you would like to book please call Trish on 087 647 8183 or email [email protected]. This course is provided free of charge and is limited to 12 persons. Participants will be required to attend on three parts of the training and will be provided with LNT certification. If you have trained with us in the past, please bring along your Inishowen River Guardians Passport.

COVID RESTRICTIONS:
Guidance on Covid is changing daily and weekly, but at a minimum, you must bring your own facemask, plus a spare, along with enough hand sanitizer for you personally each day. Close personal contact will be at reduced levels during the course, but it is inevitable. When possible we will try to work in pods with previous close contacts or family members if members of the same household are partaking in the course. We may have to amend sessions, if guidance changes, we may have to run the course fully outdoors – this type of course easily suits such an alternative. More details to follow in the days leading up to the first day of the course, this will include a compulsory health screening risk assessment questionnaire.
