NWRM Study Launch

Nature-based solutions to flood management in Inishowen

February 2020 – In 2018 the Inishowen Rivers Trust commissioned a study into the ‘Opportunities for Natural Water Retention Measures in Inishowen’. These measures are natural techniques for slowing water in areas prone to flooding and has been used successfully in the UK. The study, funded by the OPW, was carried out by Prof. Mary Bourke and her MegaFloods team at Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with natural flood management expert Dr. Paul Quinn from Newcastle University.

The study looked into several catchment in Inishowen including rivers flowing through the towns of Carndonagh, Clonmany and Buncrana. At this launch event the results of the report will be presented by Prof Bourke and followed by a Q & A session including Dr. Quinn. This is an opportunity for the community to engage with flooding experts and consider the implementation of such measures locally.

A summary of the report will be available on the night
