Interested in volunteering with Inishowen Rivers Trust?
Why Get Involved?
Our rivers need our help! If you are a landowner, an angler, an environmentalist, an artist, a walker, a wildlife watcher, you can get involved in protecting our most valuable resource. It might only be a few hours of volunteering in a year but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have done something to protect and enhance your environment. And a few hours of fresh air is bound to be good for you too!
How can I get involved?
Simply download our IRT_Volunteer_Registration_Form_v052020, fill it in and return to us by email or post. We will contact you to confirm we have received your form and let you know when volunteer events are happening. Please email to [email protected] or if you have further questions please call 0838081761.
In return for your volunteering skills we will provide you with an update on our projects from time to time through a short newsletter. And what volunteer event would be complete without that hot cup of tea!

Closing Date: 25th March 2020 at 5pm
The Inishowen Rivers Trust are delighted to announce that we are now hiring our first ever staff member! Although the Trust has been operating for 5 years, it has always been through the fantastic support of our volunteers and hard working Board of Directors. Putting a Project Officer in place will be a turning point for the Trust and it will be exciting to see what lies ahead.
The IRT is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a charity. We have built a strong volunteer program to which we delivered a popular training programe last year – the Inishowen River Guardians. We are also working on our core flooding project which is looking into natural water retention measures. We’ve attended many conferences and workshops, organised community events and talks across the years and to date have processed €110,000 in funding allocations.
We’re not the only Rivers Trust in Ireland to have worked so hard to help deliver projects on the ground. The Maigue Rivers Trust in Co. Limerick set up at approximately the same time as the Inishowen Rivers Trust and there are 7 other established trusts in the Republic. Our hard work has now been recognised by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government which has granted core funding to the Inishowen and Maigue RTs to support one staff member each for three years. This is known as the ‘Resilience Pilot Project‘ and will assess the process by which trusts can build capacity, confidence and credibility to bring a benefit to our rivers and communities. Rivers Trusts are forming right across Ireland and there is a growing community of active citizens working for our rivers who need vital support such as this to survive.
If you are interested in becoming the first staff member for the Inishowen Rivers Trust, you can download the Project Officer job specifications here. The closing date for applications is Wednesday March 25th 2020 and interviews will take place in mid April.
