June 2021 – The Inishowen Rivers Trust are delighted to be working in the Cloontagh Catchment in Clonmany over the next few months. This is the second project the Trust have secured funding for in this area and we are delighted to have a base in the area thanks to the generosity of the Clonmany Community Centre.
This new project is funded under LAWPRO’s Community Water Development Fund and already we have met the pupils of Cloontagh National School learning about bogs, forests and the heritage of the local area.
Early in June NatureNorthWest education Aengus Kennedy visited the school via Zoom and also took the pupils on walks across the bog and the forest to learn more about how important these habitats are for biodiversity and in managing our water. Later in the month we were delighted to join Margaret Farren and John Moulden as they talked about the heritage of the Cloontagh area and the ‘Gentle Waters’ of the Cloontagh river. We even heard about a local song, first composed by the grandfather of children at the school.
In the coming months there will be more events and opportunities to get involved in the Cloontagh Catchment project. We have lined up more activities for the kids, training for the adults, some walks and a heritage talk. if you would like to get involved or hear more about the project Contact Us.
