Our Story
The Inishowen Rivers Trust is an environmental charity that aims to protect, restore and improve the rivers and natural waterbodies of the Inishowen Municipal District. Established as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) in 2016 and as a charity in 2018, the IRT evolved from a local, community group and works both for the benefit of this community and for the environment in which we live.
The main aims of the Trust are to advance the education of the public, or any association, institution, voluntary organisation, company, local authority, administrative or governmental agency or public body or representative body in:
(a) The understanding of rivers, river corridors and river catchments, including their fauna, flora, biodiversity, economic or social activity, and river catchment management.
(b) The need for, and benefits of, conservation, protection, rehabilitation and improvement of aquatic environments.
The IRT has six members on the Board of Directors. All board members work in a voluntary capacity. Our current Chairperson is Claire Thompson Moore (Malin). The other five members of the Board are: Eunan Doherty (Carndonagh), Margaret Farren (Gleneely), Rosemarie Moulden (Doherty) (Carndonagh), Mervyn Norris (Tremone) and Ronan O'Doherty (Buncrana).
The Inishowen Rivers Trust currently has four staff members: Trish Murphy (Moville), Carlene Lyttle (Culdaff) and Sean Toland (Clonmany), Liz Doherty (Clonmany).
The IRT is a company limited by guarantee (587285) and a registered charity (RCN 20153106) with Charitable Status (CHY 22625).
